As a young boy, had a ritual for comics reading that involved cooking Campbell's Beef with Vegetables and Barley soup while reading three pages of comics at the most, then draining the broth and eating that as he reached the halfway point of the comic, then finally using Ruffles potato chips to spoon out the chunks while finishing the book.
Was working at fast-food taco joint when he decided to go into comics.
Studied art at the University of Washington.
Trained under John Buscema for three months in New York City.
Met Richard and Wendy Pini (of ElfQuest fame) by chance, which led to his first art gig, MythAdventures.

Hooked up with Jeph on his first work in comics, the Challs mini, in 1991 via Barbara Kesel's admiration of his work on Thieves World.
Led to his first work for Archie Goodwin, an LODK story entitled "Blades" with James Robinson (who admired Tim's work with his friend Steven Seagle on The Amazon).
Archie enjoyed Tim's work so much that it led to Jeph and Tim's first LODK Halloween special, Choices in 1993.
After his first Dark Knight special, he met with Howard Chaykin about doing a project for Marvel involving Nick Fury and Iron Man dealing with the end of the Cold War, but the project never materialized.
Has two dogs, Shelby and Hotspur. Shelby appears as Clark Kent's dog in Superman For All Seasons; Hotspur as one of "Jillian Maxwell's" two dalmatians in Choices. Choices is dedicated to them.
Is colorblind.
Parents are Roger and Dorothy, sister Maggie. He dedicated Madness to his folks and Ghosts to his sister.
Dedicated his work in TLH to Amy Capell and in For All Seasons to "Trevor, Superman's pal."
Listed among his artistic influences in the lettercol to issue 7 of TLH were Kirby for dynamics, Neal Adams for shading, Jim Steranko for the cool factor, Alex Toth, Pellejero, Frank Miller, Angela Torres, Frank Frazetta, Jean Giraud, Roy Crane, Milton Caniff, and Will Eisner.
Used Anton Furst's Academy Award winning designs of Gotham City as a basis for his artwork in TLH.
